SOME THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT FAUX LEATHER
Faux leather
is very different from your other kinds of leather as this is not real leather.
Real leather is obtained from animal skin whereas faux leather is made from
variety of chemicals and plastics in a factory. Only the appearance of real
leather and faux leather is similar. Apart from that everything is different
from texture to pattern and from feel to strength.
You can find
variety even in faux leather but most of them has a coated base material. Base materials
for faux leather includes polyester, rayon and nylon. To make faux leather a
thin layer of polyurethane (PU) or polyvinyl chloride (PVC) on the base materials.
So, there are two types of faux leather based on thin coatings which are PU
faux leather and PVC faux leather.
Faux leather
has many different names. For example, it is also called as synthetic leather
or artificial leather. All three terms are the names of synthetic leather. In
some instances, faux leather is also called as initiation leather. Depending on
its composition, it can be classified between PU leather and PVC leather.
The purpose
behind why most of the people choose faux leather over real leather is it’s definitely
its cheap cost. No matter how good quality is of faux leather it is still cheaper
than a real leather item. Real leather is made up of animal skin such as cows
or sheep which has to go through number of processes such as tanning, cleaning,
etc. to be transformed into a usable leather product. Due to this costlier and
longer process and the exceptionality of source real leather is exclusive.
Unlike real
leather, faux leather can’t develop any patina over it or has any good smell over
it. Both the real leather and faux leather can crack but faux leather is more susceptible
to cracking as compared to real leather.
